Swazi Activist Thulani Maseko Murdered At His Home

Swazi activist Thulani Maseko was reportedly shot dead at his home.

According to a report by the Daily Maverick, Swazi political activist, government critic, and human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko was shot and killed by unknown assassins at his home on Saturday night. The article further reveals that the leading Swazi activist was shot through the windows of his home in Bhunya in the Manzini region.

Maseko had headed the Multi-Stakeholder Forum (MSF) of political parties and civil society groups leading the campaign for democracy in his region. Local journalists had also reported that he was watching TV in his home when the assassination happened.

As mentioned above, Maseko was shot through the window. The shooters did not enter his home. According to a photograph posted by the Times of Eswatini on its Facebook page, there were two bullet holes in a window of the house. The late activist’s wife, Tanele Maseko, and children were with him when he died.

Fellow activists and human rights defenders in Eswatini have called for an independent investigation into the murder.
