Taylor Swift to Receive an Honorary Doctorate from New York University

Taylor Swift is set to receive an honorary doctorate from New York University (NYU) during the institution’s commencement ceremony on May 18.

She’s excited about the honour, and so are her fans, who have been talking about the same on social media.

Taylor Swift, 32, is one of the few musicians to be so honoured. She’s expected to deliver a commencement address to the institution’s Class of 2022 at Yankee Stadium in New York City.

The NYU praised the singer’s merits, noting that she’s an 11-time Grammy winner and one of the most prolific musicians of her generation.

The honour followed the institution launching a course dedicated to the singer and her trajectory in the music space, from when she was a little known voice in the orbit of global pop to the pop star that she is today.

Taylor Swift has many career wins to her name, including being one of the bestselling musicians in the world, with over 200 million records sold worldwide.

Some of her African fans compare her award to what takes place back home, noting that in most countries in Africa, honorary doctorates are rarely given on merit but to people who have money to dish out. Well, congratulations are in order for Swift.
