Tembisa Residents After Mayor Tania Campbell’s No-Show

Angry Tembisa residents shut down the community after Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell failed to show up at a community meeting on Friday, July 29.

The mayor had reportedly earlier received a memo from residents and was to have addressed the subjects raised in the memo during the planned meeting. But the mayor’s failure to show up had residents riled.

Although Tania Campbell wasn’t there in person, the mayor sent other city officials to address the people. Residents were unimpressed with the decision. Discussion still held but collapsed soon after, and tempers started rising among residents.

And to register their anger, some residents decided to block some of the major roads to the city using trucks. Also, a truck was reportedly touched on the R21, with protesters pelting passing vehicles.

In related news, the people of Tembisa had reportedly called out one of their own, DJ Shimza, for allegedly illegal tenders that had seen the DJ’s restaurant HangAwt handle the cooking for a government department.

Tania Campbell is one of several government officials who have provoked anger from South Africans in recent memory. What’s unclear is if and when she’d address the issue raised.
