Novak Djokovic beats Lorenzo Musetti (6-3 6-3) to win his first match on the ATP Tour at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship.
Novak Djokovic made his competitive return to the ATP Tour and also played his first match of the year. Djokovic had been deported from Australia last month.
The match went amazingly for him and his fans filled the air with chants of his name. Serbian flags were also raised high while he played. Djokovic was touched by the reception and commented “I couldn’t have asked for a better reception”.
He thanked his fans “for welcoming me the way you did”. Djokovic won 77 percent of points although he seemed rusty at the beginning. He acknowledged his rustiness and stated that “Of course there were moments when I played great and there were moments when I made a couple of unforced errors in a row, uncharacteristically.” He also acknowledged that he finished “the game in straight sets against a very talented player.” He will face either Alex de Minaur or Karen Khachanov in the round of 16.
