The Kiffness Supports Expats Voting Abroad

Mzansi producer The Kiffness speaks out in support of expats voting abroad.

With the elections happening soon, there have many updates that have sparked conversations in the country. According to The South African, last weekend, Mzansi citizens living in various parts of the world were given the opportunity to vote. They were given an early special vote via stations set up by their local embassies and the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).

The publication reports that the ballots will be secured and returned to the country where they will be counted after the elections on Wednesday, 29 May. These expats were seen in videos posted online waving their flags and also wearing them on their underwear, socks, and T-shirts.

They also sang local songs and some wore T-shirts showing support for their favourite political parties, including the ANC, DA, PA, and EFF. Some wore their favourite Springbok shirts.

Reacting to the videos, a tweep wrote,

“I don’t get it. Why are people who have chickened out on this country able to vote? You left us and shouldn’t have a say in what happens in SA. Shouldn’t this privilege remain only for those who are still here fighting for a better future in SA?”

The Kiffness replied in support of their votes. He wrote,

“If you own a green mamba you are South African. Some emigrants vote because they want to come back. Others vote because they have family here & want a better life for them. Others might not want to come back or have any family, but they still care. Either way, it’s their right.”
