The Oscars: Why Liza Minnelli Presented the Best Picture award from a Wheelchair.

Liza Minnelli uses a wheelchair. The reasons were sketchy – well, until recently, she joined singer Lady Gaga on stage at this year’s Academy Awards (The Oscars) to present the Best Picture award.

Most members of the audience – and even those who didn’t make it to the vent – wondered why she was in a wheelchair. Well, it so happened that the actress and singer has had several health challenges, which all contributed to her having to use a wheelchair.

Back in 2000, she was diagnosed with viral encephalitis at the age of 54. The condition is known to inflame the brain.

Among the notable symptoms of the condition are weakness and loss of movements in some parts of the body, difficulty in speaking and seizures.

She was reported to have had a stroke around the same period and was admitted to Cleveland Clinic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Although she was discharged about a week later, she had to be readmitted again.

Six years later, in 2016, commenting on her health, she gave clues about her health challenges when she noted that she has three crushed disks, a wired-up knee, and scoliosis.

But then, she’s not given hope in life – one reason fans are praising her courage.
