Theresa de Villiers, Wife of Former Springbok coach Peter De Villiers, Dead in Pool

 

Theresa de Villiers, the wife of former South African coach Peter de Villiers, was found dead in a swimming pool yesterday, Monday, April 4. She was 62.

According to reports, she was visiting family in Fairview, Gqeberha, when tragedy intruded. Her death comes almost three years after losing her daughter, Odile Monk, to cancer. She had been diagnosed with lymphoma in 2018 and died in December of the following year.

The circumstance of the current tragedy, Theresa’s death in the pool, is still unclear, but the authorities are currently investigating. She was said to have been found in the pool by a family member. 

The news of Theresa’s passing has less to an avalanche of condolence messages from around South Africa. The Elephants president Maasdorp Cannon extended his condolence to Peter and his family on behalf of the Eastern Cape Province Rugby.

Until her death, Theresa was thought to be close to her husband. He wasn’t around at the time she reportedly drowned in the pool. And although her death is now official, he’s said to be mourning quietly and has not issued any statements.
