Thomas Mapfumo Turns Down R10m From Chivayo

Veteran Zimbabwean musician Thomas Mapfumo makes headlines after rejecting a R10m offer from Sir Wicknell Chivayo.

While some musicians may be driven by money because of how hard things have become, some have proven to still maintain their integrity. Veteran musician Thomas Mapfumo recently stunned fans after he rejected a $500,000 offer from businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo.

According to reports, it all started when Mapfumo had made a video calling out artists who received car gifts from Zanu PF associate Wicknell Chivayo. He called them poor and accused them of lacking moral grounds. Disappointed by the video, Chivayo made him an offer, asking him to apologize and get back the support of the ruling party.

Chivayo shared a call that he had with Mapfumo, and fans speculated that the veteran musician must have accepted his offer. Fans were divided after a fake account apologized on the musician’s behalf. However, they were proud when he finally spoke out and revealed that he did not take the offer.

One fan, Arther Chatora wrote, “We know the true Thomas Mapfumo and what he stands for. We can’t be hoodwinked.”

Mapfumo said, “I would never sell my integrity for a quick $. I never accepted anything from @wicknellchivayo; they were just people trying to taint my reputation. Unfortunately, some will easliy buy into the narrative.”
