Thuso Mbedu (Nawi) Geared And Ready For “The Woman King”

No words necessary. I will let the trailer speak for itself. Those were the words of South African actress Thuso Mbedu, announcing the imminence of the flick,  The Woman King, which featured her and other notable figures.

In the flick, she played the role of Nawi, one of the several women in the all-woman army known as Agoji.

The film is a recreation of the Dahomey (now Benin Republic) female warriors who fought and defended the country between the 18th and 19th centuries. As part of the cast, the South African actress had to undergo physical training and examination to ensure she was fit for her role.

She aced them, and now she’s set to ignite screens as Nawi in The Woman King. Recalling how it all went down, Thuso Mbedu admitted her fear of heights. But then she had to conquer that to face the role. Now, the thoughts of height merely make her laugh. She had to bury her fear to attain something she had her eyes on.

Mbedu is a “youngling” but one of the few who are already greatly repping South Africa on the international acting circuit. And she’s had the opportunity to work with some of the finest in the game.
