TikTok and Universal Reach New Agreement

TikTok and Universal Music have finally reached a new agreement.

There has been reported progress in the very public conflict between TikTok and Universal Music Group. Back in January, after their deal came to an end, a disagreement over a new licensing deal led UMG to pull all of their music from TikTok’s content library.

Recent reports reveal that there has been progress in this regard. The two companies have announced a new licensing deal accepted by both parties. This means that UMG artists and song catalogues will be making a return to TikTok.

According to RouteNote, TikTok has stated that the new deal will see “new promotional and engagement opportunities” for Universal Music Group music. Not much information was shared about this. It is also unclear how much UMG artists will get from the use of their music moving on.

“This new chapter in our relationship with TikTok focuses on the value of music, the primacy of human artists and the welfare of the creative community. We look forward to collaborating with the team at TikTok to further the interested of our artist and songwriters and drive innovation in fan engagement while advancing social music monetization,” says UMG Chairman and CEO, Sir Lucian Grainge.
