Top Ghana Artists & Songs 2022

While many would think the world’s focus is only on Afrobeats which originated from Nigeria, the truth is that music from Africa as a whole has gripped the world. It isn’t just Afrobeats. Ghanaian music has gained so much attention for years now, with artists like Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, and more championing the cause.

A few years back, Shatta Wale snagged a feature with multiple Grammys winner Beyoncé Knowles and did justice to it. Ghanaian artists have also won some of the world’s most coveted awards and have continued to rise. Since the previous year, a long list of Ghanaian artists have dominated the scene with their music and also collaborated with some of the biggest names in the African music industry.

This year, they have continued to deliver. Some of 2021’s previous jams have spilled into this year. While some new jams have been released since January, and the world cannot stop listening. Here is a list of the top 12 Ghanaian artists so far in 2022. This list is in no particular order.

1. King Promise

26-year-old Gregory Bortey Newman, popularly known as King Promise, is one of Ghana’s leading Highlife and Afrobeats artists. Both a singer and a songwriter, King Promise has made a massive reputation for himself with a long list of hits. Last year, he dropped collaborations with Patoranking, Headie One, The Composers, etc. He recently released “Bad n Rude” featuring WSTRN.

2. KiDi

The world knew a star when KiDi made his debut on the scene years back. He has since given us a lot of great music to enjoy, from “Say Cheese” to “Touch It” and more. Last year, he dropped the album “The Golden Boy,” which became a significant success. He also recently joined Smallgod and Darkoo on “Falling”.

3. Kelvyn Boy

Described as Africa’s fastest-rising star, Kelvyn Boy has gotten himself a seat at the table. We must say, he quite deserves it. With millions of streams to his name, there is still no stopping him. He’s got his hands full this year. He appeared alongside Gold Up and Busy Signal on “Location,” joined Yanis Odua on the “Stay High Remix,” and also dropped “Downflat” in January.

4. Kwesi Arthur

There is always a place for Kwesi Arthur on every list of Ghana’s top working hitmakers. The talented star already made a statement with “Ashawo Season” this year. Last year, he gave fans “Different” and “Celebrate.” He has followed up with an acoustic version of “Celebrate” to promote the song this year.

5. DarkoVibes

As they say, experience is the best teacher. This statement is everything that has made DarkoVibes who and what he is today. Learning the music creation process, he has risen to be one of the best in Ghana. Back in February, he teamed up with Boomski Radio and released “Jealousy.” Last year’s “Je M’Appelle” featuring Nigerian star, Davido is still making a buzz.

6. Gyakie

Gyakie is queen, and we all know that. The talented Afro-Fusion and Afrobeats singer and songwriter has risen to massive recognition and has written her own story. Last year, the continent and the world could not get enough of her hit “Forever.” She also topped herself with the remix featuring Nigerian star Omah Lay. In February, she joined Jux on the love song “I Love You.”

7. Black Sherif

Now, here’s the man everyone wants to meet. At just 20, Black Sherif is giving the music industry a run for its money. The versatile artist flexes with Highlife, Drill, Afrobeats, and more and still stays unique in all his songs. He has the world gripped with his song “Kwaku The Traveller”. He has also made huge impressions with “Second Sermon” (remix featuring Burna Boy)”, “Always” with Darkoo, and more.

London-born Ghanaian DJ, producer, and songwriter, Juls is one of Africa’s brightest stars. He has worked with the world’s most sought-after artists and made a massive name. Last year, he painted the airwaves with the “Sounds Of My World” album. This year, he has released “Ready” with BenjiFlow and joined Zikomo and Jaz Karis on the “Summer In The Ends (Julz Zikomo remix).”

It continues to gain praise even this year.
