Trompies’ Eugene Mthethwa Sworn In As EFF Member Of Parliament

For fans of former Trompies member Eugene Mthethwa, here comes a piece of good news. The Kwaito musician has just been announced as one of Parliament’s new Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members.

Effective June 1, he will be a Member of Parliament. Also announced as a new member was the former African Transformation Movement (ATM) member Mzwanele Manyi.

For Eugene, it is a new lease of life following a public display not long ago to draw the attention of the South African Musical Rights Organization (SAMRO) to the reality that he had not been paid his royalties. At the time, Eugene Mthethwa had chained himself at SAMRO offices to draw attention to his plight.

The incident drew national attention and SAMRO had to address it immediately. From the look of things, that is past tense now, as the muso is more focused on his new role as a new MP under the EFF – easily one of the most controversial political parties in South Africa.
