Two Songs By BTS Banned By Korea’s KBS

We have passed the era of banned books. But are we now stepping into the era of banned music? In case you missed it, South Korea’s state-run broadcasting channel KBS has banned two songs from BTS’ recently released album.

Rhe banned songs are “Run BTS” and “Born Singer.” According to the KBS, both songs bear profane language and vulgar words and are, therefore, unfit to be aired on the network.

The news of the ban has most of the band’s fans, collectively known as ARMY, unimpressed. As a result, they have been throwing mordant darts at the KBS on social media.

As far as some fans are concerned, there is nothing vulgar in both songs, and there is nothing the group did that has not been done previously.

The two banned songs are part of “PROOF,” an anthology album by the Korean collective also known as Bangtang Boys.

Made of seven friends, BTS is one of the most visible Korean bands out there — if not the most visible. With several hit songs out there, some of them with over a billion views on YouTube, BTS is one band music lovers have learned to take seriously. The attention is not misplaced.
