While some South Africans criticised Tyla’s eponymous album, the project is flying high and hard on the international scene and has just earned the songstress a record and another career milestone.
Yup, her “TYLA” album has become the fastest album by an African artist, with over 630 million streams in just a week. The record was previously held by the Nigerian singer Burna Boy of the “African Giant” fame.
However, with her new number of 630,679,876 Spotify streams (at the time of writing), the South African has pushed her Nigerian counterpart off his high horse and taken over the saddle – no small milestone for a 22-year-old.
"TYLA" by Tyla becomes the fastest album by an African artist to surpass 630 MILLION streams in under a week. She surpasses Burna Boy who held this record. 👑

The impressive record made by the album stems in part from a previous victory the singer scored. With her Grammy award win just months earlier, the singer had ignited global attention, which explained the massive interest in her album, leading to impressive streaming numbers.
Tyla is the 12th and youngest South African to have won the Grammy award. Here, groups are counted as one, if you please.
Well, with her latest record on the Spotify streaming charts, all eyes are on her to see how far she will maintain the spot. Congratulations are in order for the “Water” goddess.
