Mzansi singer Tyla scores her first debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with the viral jam “Water.”
Tyla is winning. The beautiful and uber-talented singer has been making waves with her massive hit song “Water.” The song spawned the viral Water Dance Challenge, which has been a huge success on TikTok.
With over 448 million videos on the platform and counting, the song’s success is massive. According to reports by Billboard on Tuesday, the song debuted on the Hot 100 Songs chart at number 67. It makes her the first South African soloist in 55 years to do that since Hugh Masekela with “Grazing in the Grass.”
Mzansi is impressed, and we hear Tyla is over the moon. The song has also made appearances on other charts. It sits at number nine on the TikTok Official Viral 50 Chart and number 37 on the Global Spotify chart with over 2 million streams. It also appears on the Billboard Global 200.
The singer first made an appearance on the airwaves with her hit “Getting Late” featuring Kooldrink. She later returned with “Overdue” featuring DJ Lag and Kooldrink. She has since dropped “Been Thinking,” “To Last,” its remix with DJ Maphorisa & Young Stunna, “Girl Next Door” with Ayra Starr, and appeared in many collabs. Congrats to her.
