Famous for always speaking her mind, Unathi’s attempt to express himself recently appeared to have backfired ignominiously.
Unathi Nkayi is one of the judges of the reality show Idols SA. While giving her opinion on the performance of one of the contestants on the show, S’22kile, who had delivered incorrect lyrics, Unathi herself had spoken in incorrect Sesotho.
S’22kile was performing the song “Ntyilo Ntyilo” by Rethabile (featuring Master KG), but she switched up the lyrics a bit, which displeased Unathi. She was said to have delivered a harsh verdict to S’22kile in Sesotho but didn’t not get the language right
For judging the contestant while making a mistake, she was roasted by social media users. Some mocked her for the slip in her use of Sesotho. Some considered her pretentious, and others thought she should have been gracious to the contestant.
By the way, Unathi recently unfollowed former Idols SA judge Somizi after he was accused by his ex-husband Mohale Motaung of abuse in leaked audio. That decision aligned with what she had done earlier: celebrating the conviction of disgraced rapper R Kelly for sex trafficking.
It remains to be seen how she would respond to the wave of condemnation for how she treated S’22kile.
