Unseeded Naomi Osaka Defeats Belinda Bencic, Now to Meet Iga Swiatek

Japanese tennis ace Naomi Osaka had an impressive outing and bested Belinda Bencic at the Miami Open semi-finals yesterday, Thursday, March 31.

Naomi, an unseeded ace, defeated No 22 Belinda Bencic 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

It was a symbolic moment and one of many she had experienced since she started her professional tennis career. Her eyes welled with gratitude, knowing she had triumphed.

She would acknowledge kit was an emotional moment for her and hid her face in an orange towel. It should be, perhaps. After all, the court battle with Belinda Bencic was her very first championship match since the 2021 Australian open.

She had entered the Miami open ranked 77th in the world but did show that she’s got what it takes to reclaim her number one spot in the game, beating an anniversary some pundits had thought would ace the game.

With her win over Belinda Bencic, Naomi Osaka will face Iga Swiatek, a polish player currently ranked No. 2. At just 20 years, she’s considered the youngest player in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings.

Naomi Osaka is not only looking forward to the match with Iga Swiatek, but she’s also looking forward to beating her. But will fate have other ideas? Time will tell, of course.
