Veteran Journalist Jeremy Gordin Killed In His Johannesburg Home

It was another dark moment for South Africa as the Rainbow Nation got to witness another death in what has been described as a robbery gone wrong. The dead was no other than the veteran journalist Jeremy Gordin.

Multiple reports indicated that he was killed at his home in Parkview, Johannesburg, in a robbery gone wrong. His wife, Deborah, confirmed the robbery to newsmen. She also noted that he didn’t have full details because she was in Cape Town at the time.

A case of armed robbery and murder has since been opened. The police spokesperson, Col Mavela Masondo, confirmed a case had been opened but also noted that no arrests have been made. Investigations are currently ongoing.

Gordin, who is survived by his wife and two children (Jake and Nina), was an accomplished journalist and poet with three volumes of poetry to his name. He is also co-author of the books The Infernal Tower and A Long Night’s Damage.

The news of his death has rattled some South Africans, who are still trying to come to terms with the assassination of the rapper AKA in February this year. Crime is prevalent in South Africa these days, and it appears there is nowhere anyone can hide.
