When the quality of leadership is so poor, people get to celebrate when they see an example of what they consider good leadership. This reality plays out again and again across South Africa. It has just played out at a hospital in Polokwane, Limpopo, causing an MEC to go viral.
Limpopo Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, was at Rethabile Clinic in Polokwane recently and there she encountered a long queue and saw security men selling masks. She was unimpressed with the situation on the ground and lashed out at those responsible.
In a series of clips which have since gone viral, the health MEC could be seen scolding a supervisor who was having launch while there was a “serious crisis” at the hospital. In another clip, she could be seen warning the security guards that if she should catch them selling masks again, they would all be fired. You can check out the clips below.
“First, before I am an MEC or medical doctor, I am a human being and a mother. I have gone through labour,” she said at some point.
