Vybz Kartel Receives Good News In Appeals Court

Vybz Kartel gets a few years before he can be eligible for parole.

Several people have called for the release of Vybz Kartel over the years but this has not been sufficient to release the dancehall legend from prison.

Vybz Kartel was sentenced to life in prison as a result of his role in the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. Vybz Kartel has made several attempts to appeal his sentence. At the beginning of April, he was denied his bid. Some weeks earlier, he, however, received a bit of good news.

It is reported that Vybz Kartel scored a win in court this week. This was when it was determined that he would be eligible for parole much earlier than it is expected. Even though it won’t be anytime soon, Vybz Kartel would be eligible for parole in thirty-two years and six months instead of thirty-five years.

Attorney for Vybz Kartel’s co-defendant, Bert Samuels, said:

The trial judge fell in error by not taking into account the time spent in reprimand, which is a breach of principle. So, I am pleased that the court has decided to reduce the sentences by two-and-a-half years.

Even with the good news, the judgement implies that Vybz Kartel, who has turned forty four behind bars, will be released when he is seventy years old in 2046.

Despite being behind bars, the dancehall legend keeps thrilling us with a ton of music. Vybz released his latest album titled ‘Tanisha’ earlier this year.
