The invasion could have passed for a spec of fiction, except that it isn’t. The Islamist collective Hamas began an invasion of the Jewish state of Israel days ago, taking the whole nation by surprise. It has been described as the biggest intelligence failure since the Yom Kippur War.
Hamas fighter has reportedly invaded the venue of a court in South Israel and slaughtered hundreds there, as well as rained thousands of missiles into Israel. The group didn’t stop there, as it went into Israeli neighbourhoods, killing and maiming people at sight – assuming they were all Israelis.
With the ticking time comes more clarity on the massacre, with multiple reports pointing out that several foreigners had been massacred as well. The images are gory and tempers are pretty high.
In an address to his compatriots, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu informed his people of the state of the nation, asking them to take refuge in bomb shelters even as Hamas continues its onslaught. The Prime Minister also announced Article 40 Aleph –as voted for by the cabinet.
Article 40 Aleph is an official declaration of war, with the army mandated to carry out operations at its discretion but report the same to the higher authorities.
