Was DJ Maphorisa’s The Return Of The Scorpion Kings Cheated By The SAMA?

The Scorpion King DJ Maphorisa has implied he was cheated in the Best Kwaito Album category in this year’s South Africa Music Award, which goes by the hashtag #SAMA26 . He had been nominated for his collaborative album with Kabza De Small, titled ” The Return Of The Scorpion Kings.”

The award was, however, given to DJ Tira’s 17-track “iKhenani” album which was released back in September 2019. That body of work managed to fuse several genres into a sumptuous whole and was a hit with fans back then.

DJ Maphorisa implied he was cheated while acknowledging Mlindo The Vocalist, an artiste signed to his record label (Blaqboy Music), who won the Best Selling Artiste award for his album “Emakhaya.”

The four laughing emojis that accompanied the post might suggest he wasn’t in earnest, after all, or was in good humour at the time he tweeted.

At any rate, most of his fans agreed with him he was cheated. This year’s award is going down in history as one of the most controversial. Apparently most of the works peeps expected to be nominated and even win awards were either not nominated, or failed to win anything.

Do you think so DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small’s “The Return Of The Scorpion Kings” was cheated by the SAMA, though?
