If you think amapiano is dead or dying or might die anytime soon, you might want to think again. The genre continues to enjoy goodwill not just from South Africa but from around the world.
The latest to show just how impactful the genre is right now is the American singer and dance, Chris Brown. The songster was recently recorded dancing to an amapiano tune – and South Africans love it. They can’t keep calm.
However, a look into the past shows that this is not the first time he’s vibed to an amapiano song. Back in 2021, for example, he’d freestyled on the “Umsebenzi Wethu” beat by Busta 929 and Mpura.
For this reason, to some amapiano fans, the latest clip of him dancing to a song in the genre is nothing surprising. But would he release a number in the genre anytime soon?
Of course, that cannot be determined at this point. But if Chris Brown should release an amapiano song, it would be revolutionary and would ignite interest in the genre from other established global voices.
Until then, you may want to watch him in action as he indirectly tells amapiano critics that the genre isn’t going away anytime soon.
