South Africa’s celebrity sangoma (traditional healer) Gogo Maweni is in the news again – for frolicking with snakes. It wouldn’t be the first time this has happened and snagged the attention of her compatriots, however.
The most recent clip was posted to TikTok and showed the sangoma with one of her snakes wrapped around her neck. She looked carefree as she spoke, with the snake wrapped comfortably around her neck. You can check out the clip below.

The latest video easily casts her core fans’ minds back to February this year. Back then, she had shared clips of herself sleeping in bed with pythons. The video elicited shock at the time, with some asking her whether the snakes wouldn’t kill her in there.
Gogo Maweni, who is also called Dr Maweni even though she doesn’t have a PhD, is one of the few celebrity sangomas in South Africa. She is more than happy documenting her life and sangoma practice online with her fans
Just recently, she started a charity initiative in a town in KwaZulu-Natal, distributing food items to the community. She also shared that while expressing the hope she would be able to continue with the initiative. Time will tell.
