Blindness is a serious affliction that no one would want to suffer from. But life happens and people find themselves afflicted. Unable to change their circumstance, some people adapt and try to make beauty out of their ashes.
That has been the story of Phumeza Mdabe, whose 9-year-old son, Mpilo Mddabe, is afflicted with blindness. It has been a challenging reality, but Phumeza is sharing her journey of raising a blind son and even indirectly giving hope to others through the same.
The TV show host, actress and producer recently shared a clip of her son as her husband got him back from school. Somehow, the Mpilo managed to know that her mother was in the car even without having known she came with her husband to pick him up from school.
The clip of that moment charmed many South Africans, who commented about the kid’s sense of awareness despite not being able to see his environment. You can check out the heart-warming video below.

Little Mpilo was born with abnormally dark pupils, which was later diagnosed to be Bilateral Retinoblastoma – a cancer of the eye. It was devastating news and something the actress and her husband never expected. But here they are.
They have since made peace with that morbid reality and have been trying to see the brightness amid the darkness.
