DJ Maphorisa and Wizkid are no strangers to each other. They have worked on projects previously. In a sense, Wizkid had contributed to DJ Maphorisa becoming the amapiano ace that he is today.

During one of their encounters, Wizkid had heard the amapiano sound and asked what sound it was, noting that he loved it. Wizkid’s love for the amapiano sound encouraged DJ Maphorisa to commit himself totally to amapiano.

Today, it is impossible to discuss amapiano music without somehow mentioning DJ Maphorisa’s name. He and Kabza De Small, another notable piano figure, are collectively known as the Piano Kings because of their contribution to amapiano music in South Africa.

Before delving fully into amapiano music, DJ Maphorisa was a gqom DJ and producer, mastermind of several hits, including the “Gqom Wave” series.

It remains to be seen if DJ Maphoris and Wizkid will release another joint jam after their “Soweto Baby” hit of years ago.
