Who Killed Senzo Meyiwa? Accused No. 3 Returns To Court, Seeks New Attorney

For how long until justice? That is one question South Africans have asked sporadically over the death of former Bafana Bafana goalie Senzo Meyiwa. The questions continue even as accused number three, Mthobisi Mncube, returns to court for the murder trial.

The third accused, who is currently represented by TT Thobane, is heading to the Gauteng High Court. He wants t a new lawyer to replace the one he currently has. Earlier, last year, accused number 1 & 2 Bongani Ntanzi and Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya

Mthobisi Mncube is standing trial alongside four others for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa. The footballer had been killed in the home of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in what was claimed to be a botched robbery.

The case had dragged on for years since the investigation started, with apparently no resolution in sight. Senzo Meyiwa’s father had fought for justice for his son until he died himself, his dream of seeing his son’s killers unrealized.

While Senzo’s then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo was pointed at as one of the suspects, the case had taken a dramatic turn such that her name no longer figures. She’s not part of the five accused and docked.

Mthobisi Mncube’s new attorney would be given the docket to familiarize himself with the case before the trial continues in May.
