Wicknell Chivayo is a Zimbabwean businessman and entrepreneur. He gained prominence after controversially winning large Zimbabwean government contracts. He is famous for flaunting his wealth on social media. Chivayo is the CEO of Intratek Zimbabwe. According to former reports, the then Energy and Power Development Minister of Zimbabwe, Samuel Undenge, pressured the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) to pay Chivayo’s company Intratek Zimbabwe $5 million despite the absence of a bank guarantee.

Wicknell Chivayo married his wife, Sonja Madzikanda, in July 2017. He had previously stated his disdain for Zimbabwean women before his marriage. According to reports, Chivayo paid $50,000 bride price for his wife. He shared a post describing the day as the best day of his life.

Glory be to God in the highest..” He also credited his inlaws for the bride price he paid, calling it the “best in history.” Music star Oliver Mtukudzi was the guest musician at the wedding. Their marriage has faced some controversy through the years. Sonja once accused Wicknell in 2014, of cheating on and mistreating her. They both unfollowed each other on social media at the time.

Sir Wicknell and his wife welcomed their first child, a son, in 2018. He got people talking when he shared a DNA test conducted to determine the paternity of the boy. His wife, Sonja, explained to her followers in 2020 that their son was born in the US, and Wicknell could only stay for two weeks because of his work.

She was left to file the paperwork for John’s passport and NI number. But because the name on her son’s birth certificate was John Chivayo, and her legal name was still Sonja Madzikanda, a paternity test was required to prove that Wicknell was indeed the father.

Private Jet

In August 2023, Wicknell Chivayo went viral for showing off a private jet worth around $90 million. People began to speculate that the jet belonged to him and wondered how he could afford such a pricey jet. However, he told Zimbabwe Independent that he never said the jet belonged to him.

He said, “At no given time did I say I bought a private jet. Although I can afford three of those jets with my eyes closed.”

It was later reported that he was at the privately-run Lanseria airport in South Africa, where he hired the jet.

Speaking on Capitalk FM’s ‘The Champions League Breakfast’ show, hosted by Phathisani Sibanda and Tinashe Chikuse, Chivayo said,

“Well, I have a lot of businesses in the region in Tanzania, South Africa, and Kenya, but my main businesses are in renewable energy and participating mostly in government tenders for engineering procurement and construction of power projects. More like the Gwanda Solar project, where you team up with partners from rich companies from overseas like China and Germany. In South Africa, l have a fuel company that exports fuel to Lesotho.”
