World’s Tallest Woman Flies On A Plane For The First Time – How It Happened

It has been said that dreams can come true, and the world’s tallest woman has just seen hers come true in a beautiful way. She was able to make her first plane flight. Of course, given her height, concessions had to be made for that to happen.

Rumeysa Gelgi, from Istanbul, Turkey, made it to the Guinness Book of World Records last year (2021) for her impressive height of 7 feet, 0.7 inches.

For her first flight, an airline had to remove sic economy seats so she could lie on a stretcher on the vacated space for the 13-hour flight from Istanbul to San Francisco in the United States.

Rumeysa Gelgi couldn’t fly previously because of her height and the reluctance to accommodate her previously. She suffers from a condition dubbed Weaver Syndrome, which causes her bones to overgrow. The affliction started from when she was a child and persisted into adulthood. Records show that even as a child, she could not fit into aeroplane seats.

While she still contends with the condition, she has been able to fulfil a life-long dream of an airplane flight. The 24-year-old, who typically uses a walker or wheelchair because of her condition, achieved her flight dream thanks to Turkish Airways.
