It is often said that beefing is good for the hip hop culture, as it keeps rappers on their toes with disses and also kindles rivers of attention around their craft and their person as a whole. Industry practitioners and ordinary folks alike subscribe to this view of beefing being good for the culture.
It turns out one of those who believe in beefing as being good for the culture is Zakwe, one of the notable voices in the genre in South Africa. In fact, he is actively encouraging his fellow rappers to start beefing to resurrect the culture back home.
The basis for all of this was his observation of the burning Kendrick Lamar-Drake feud. he’d apparently realised that the duo’s spat has kindled interest in their music and their lives as well, and he believes the same can happen to his compatriots who are beefing. So they should as well start beefing to rekindle the fire of South African hip hop.
In his verdict, he had the support of some of his compatriots, while some wouldn’t want unnecessary drama in the name of reviving the culture.

Well, it will be interesting to see if his fellow rapers will hearken to his admonition and start beefing.
