Many South Africans were left fuming after Dr Zickie tweeted about former Miss South Africa, Shudufhadzo Musida, noting the beauty queen is just another ordinary person from Venda.
The tweet was roundly condemned, with many people accusing her of colourism. Others denounced her for disrespecting the Venda people with her tweet.
In a follow-up tweet, she apologised for what she had shared previously. She said she didn’t mean to come off as offensive. She admitted what she tweeted was okay, and she deleted the tweet when she realised just how she erred. You can check out the tweet below.
While some tweeters appeared mollified by her apology, others would have none of it. And they have remained on the offensive since.
Others made it clear that Venda people are actually pretty and have produced beauty queens long before Musida, who had competed on the Miss Universe platform but lost.
Musida, the subject of criticism, hasn’t said anything, and it’s doubtful she would. Speaking on the subject will only draw more attention to it.
By the way, this didn’t the first time a beauty queen’s physical appeal has been called to question. It’s happened previously, elsewhere around the world. And it’s doubtful it will end with Zickie.
