Zimbabwe Dancehall Star Soul Jah Love Dead at 31

Zimbabwe’s music industry is in mourning right now following the announcement of the death of dancehall artiste Soul Jah Love. He was aged 31.

The exact cause of death has not been made public. Reports from Zimbabwe indicate, however, that he was diabetic at the time of his death, at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in his home country. The Zim Post reported that he had collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he gave up.

The songster was reportedly diagnosed with diabetes at the age of seven and contended with that health challenge well into adulthood. His problem was said to have been exacerbated by drug addiction.

Born in Harare in 1989, Soul Jah Love, whose legal name is Soul Musaka, rose to prominence with the release of the hit songs “Gum-kum” and “Ndini Uya Uya.” Other hits followed, establishing him as one of the important voices in Zimbabwean music.

The announcement of his death jolted the music industry not only at home but across neighbouring countries and tributes have been pouring in from around the world. He will be sorely missed.
