South African musician Zola 7 caused quite a buzz online after pointing out that not much has changed since the end of apartheid about 30 years ago. A visit to the Vaal was all he needed to cry out to the public about the reality on the ground.
In a clip shared on his official X account, the celebrated Kwaito veteran linked fans to the areas of his chagrin, letting them know that the living conditions in the Vaal are just terrible and almost reminiscent of the apartheid days.
As far as he is concerned, such conditions should not be prevalent when the era of segregation is over and blacks are not in power – really have been for the past 30 years. His post resonated with many South Africans, most of whom have been saying the same things. Check it out below.
This Past weekend I was in the vaal and I couldn't help but get emotional, that with 30 years of democracy in this country my people still stay in unfavourable conditions.
Yet we are told we a free? 30 years what do we have to show? but hey these are conversations people a not… pic.twitter.com/M50nwaOE3K

The issue Zola 7 raised in his video above has been a subject of sporadic interrogation, with many South Africans insisting that not much has changed. Allegedly, the corruption in the government has stunted growth in many areas and towns.
The question is, will the authorities look into Zola 7’s observations from the Vaal? Time will likely answer that soon enough. Stay tuned.
