He is one of the kwaito veterans who have managed to remain musically relevant. So it was in no way surprising That South Africa celebrated Zola 7 when he turned 47.
That’s just three years to the big 50 – a period some of his fans are already looking forward to and planning for. But the key focus was the moment – the songster’s 47th year on earth.
The surprise birthday bash was a meeting of several notables, including DJ Sbu, who was immensely generous in his praise of the kwaito star. The MoFaya boss spoke about the impact Zola 7 had in his life and the lives of other younger musicians.
DJ Sbu spoke about Zola 7 having raised hi. In other words, Zola had made a significant impact on Sbu’s life and career.
This shouldn’t be surprising because Zola 7 has a reputation for helping others, even when he wasn’t in the best position himself. Whether as a musician or as a reality TV host, he touched many lives – so much that many rallied around him when he fell into hard times himself.
Beyond that, he is seen as a symbol of resilience – a man who has battled epilepsy for years but has refused to give up.
