Lavida Nota – known simply as Nota – provoked a wave of controversies recently when he aired his views on some of South African music’s major voices, including Nasty C and Cassper Nyovest.
He thinks Nasty C an overrated artiste who needs to sit at the feet of oldies in the trench who can rap in Zulu. Well, the “Zulu Man With Some Power” did not take kindly to Nota’s words. He lashed back at Nota.
Cassper Nyovest, himself a victim of Nota’s critical hammer, has denounced Nota, in a Twitter video, as a fraudster, urging anyone who cares to listen not to take Nota seriously,
Fellow rapper and producer Zoocci Coke Dope has just weighed in on Nota’s take on industry players. Apparently, Coke Dope is unimpressed by Nota’s position on South African hip hop and the artistes driving the genre. He thinks Nota is asking for respect he hasn’t earned.
He didn’t address Nota directly, but his references were pretty easy to infer. He think it arrogant for Nota to think he has the right to “pull rank for respect.”
