In our opinion, it has been a good year for music. We have seen Nigerian artistes put in good work and practically own the airwaves. It has been back to back drops with some claiming the top of the Apple Music chart with every new entry.
Also, some artistes have gone beyond the borders of Nigeria, and dominated Africa and the world with their music.
Now, here is our list of the top 5 artistes in the first half of 2021.
Machala has reigned supreme with the release of his game changing album, “Made In Lagos”. The album has gotten lots of rave reviews and has refused to leave the top 5 of the Apple Music Albums chart (and the Billboard World Albums Chart) since it dropped. Big Wiz is also currently dominating the world with his massive hit “Essence” featuring Tems. The song has been on the Billboard Digital R&B songs chart, for multiple weeks now.
2. Omah Lay
We would all agree that Omah Lay has the midas touch. The cool voiced prince is everyone’s heartthrob and one of the most sort after artistes on the scene this year. His massive hit song “Godly” has dominated the Nigerian charts and airways, and even owned topped charts in other countries including Uganda. His collaboration with Ghanaian star, Gyakie on the “Forever Remix” gave it the boost it needed.
If you want need to see Tems, just remember that “time is of the essence”. We have heard that line more times than we can count, and we still aren’t bored of it. Who would be? Tems is the star of Wizkid’s latest big hit “Essence”. The song has claimed all of Africa, the US, the UK, Canada, Trinidad & Tobago, and various other parts of the world. Oh, and you must have seen her very many Magazine covers. A Queen.
Rema has always been about his own path and he follows it so well. The king of the Ravers has been hard at work on his album this year, and has given us a taste with “Bounce”, and “Soundgasm”. He has also topped charts with his feature on Jae5’s hit song “Dimension” alongside Skepta. Who would forget his contribution to “One Shirt” by label mate, Ruger and his big brother, D’Prince.
Whether he is at the top, the middle or the last name on the list, know that you’ll always find Davido in a list for hit makers. Everly in motion, David has dropped a few songs off his project “A Better Time”, and they’ve done really well. He has also contributed to Focalistic’s massive hit “Ke Star Remix”, and also made a hit out of that. Man honestly deserves his flowers while he is still here.
