Soweto-born songstress Bonj serves fans a feast of numbers, melding disparate genres in one sumptuous whole that his hard to miss. Welcome to the world of her latest album, “A Journal.”
This 7-song compilation popped on Apple music yesterday 25 June. It featured the previously released “Against the Grain” track with DJ Zinhle. The only other guest who made it to this compilation is Da Capo (in “Shivers,” track 7).
“A Journal” is a clean collection – with just enough guests to ensure the light remains trained on Bonj, who beautifully melds elements of soul, pop and electro into one sumptuous whole that is hard to resist.
This eclectic mix should in no way surprise anyone who has been following the career trajectory of the singer. She has blended genres previously – and beautifully, too – apparently in her quest to cut her own path.
It’s a pleasure listening to her, so go ahead and embrace the musical feast that is her “A Journal” album.
