South African disc jock and producer De Mthuda goes “Gijima” in a new song featuring pal and compatriot Murumba Pitch.
When two splendid voices link up, the result is usually beautiful, right? Well, you can look at “Gijima” as a bop with all the charming coverings a song can and should have.
The number is part of De Mthuda’s “The Landlord” album – recently released. In that compilation, the songster may have advertised himself as one of the crowns in the vanguard of South Africa’s amapiano revolution.
And no, there’s no begrudging him his audacity. De Mthuda has earned his stripes in the world of amapiano. He may not be publicly recognized as a piano king, but he shows again and again that he’s one musician worthy of a crown.
His “Gijima” track illumines his piano powers yet. Here, if you please, is one song that you can listen to over and over without falling into the treacherous swamp of boredom.
