Rouge is out with the remix of her “Popular” song, featuring, among others, Costa Titch, Phantom Steeze, Blxckie, Wichi 1080 and Christheillustrator.
A look at the guest list shows that the song brings together some popular figures in South African music. In a sense, then, one might the song is deserving of its title.
Rouge pulled off a fine coup here, tapping the vocal resources of some fine voices in South African music for a song that is at once engaging and exciting. It took two years for Rouge to release a remix, having premiered the original “Popular” track in 2019 which featured Emtee.
Back then, Emtee was the sole guest on the record. For “Popular (Remix),” the songstress, who fancies herself the best rapper in town, marches with an army. Given the beauty of the individual delivery, one cannot fault her for having so many artistes on one song.
Compared to the original track, “Popular (Remix)” appears to have the most thunder. The song begins on a soul-pleasing note and retains that note to the very end.
On the strength of the appeal of “Popular (Remix),” one might say that it is ont all the time that many cooks spoil the broth. Stream the song below.
