Investor Offers to Buy Nairaland for 50 Bitcoin

A Nigerian investor (Gaius Chibueze) who goes by the nickname Bitcoin Chief made an initial offer to buy Nairaland, the most popular Nigerian forum, for N150 million.

That offer elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians. Some Nigerians think it was an insult to make such a bid for the platform, which they call a Nigerian version of Quora.

Some Nigerians described the offer as nothing more than an example of Nigerians disrespecting their own — something they would never do if it were a foreign-owned brand.

Bitcoin Chief has since raised the stakes, offering 50 bitcoin to take ownership of the site. He also promised to retain the staff already working on the site, as well as allow Seun Osewa, the founder of Nairaland, to retain a 10 per cent stake in the site.

But the way, 50 bitcoin translates to a little over 1 billion dollars. But will Seun accept it? Some Nigerians think the offer was okay and urged Seun to take it. However, others believe Nairaland is worth between 5 and 10 billion. You can check out the conversation below.

Bitcoin Chief says his offer is valid for the next ten days. It remains to be seen if Seun will take up the offer. Stay tuned if you please, and you can learn blockchain courses here
