Abuse Allegations: Unathi Nkayi Unfollows Somizi

Unathi Nkayi, one of the judges on reality television show Idols SA, has unfriended Somizi Mhlongo, a former judge of the show.

Somizi faced severe public backlash recently when a leaked audio popped on the internet. From the audio, it was obvious his husband Mohale Motaung was claiming Somizi was abusive to him.

Initially reluctant to address the issue personally, Somizi had finally spoken out, stating that they had issues in their relationship but he would rather not dwell on them.

It was reported at the time that he would be taking a break from the show. But then the show had released an updated statement in which it said that he would not be returning to the show and that Idols SA will now be using guest judges in his place. The show’s rating plummeted following his exit.

Anyway, Unathi is taking things further to rid herself off “negativity,” according to a report by Zalebs. She had unfollowed Somizi on social media.

The move aligned with an earlier decision she made when American rapper R Kelly was convicted for sex trafficking. She had celebrated the disgraced musician’s conviction and distanced herself from abuses of any kind.

Her unfollowing Somizi has elicited mixed reactions.
