Africa Magic Urban is set to become DStv’s 11th channel cut by the end of this month, April 30th.
DStv has been making a lot of cuts lately. Just last month, the media reported WildEarth as the 10th TV channel leaving the cable network by the end of April. There were reports that the channel had been going through financial constraints and suddenly demanded carriage fees from MultiChoice.
Insidus reports that this is also part of a bigger conspiracy seen within DStv hinting at the exit of 9 channels from the platform in under 4 months. The booted channels include 1Magic, Me, People’s Weather, B4U Movies, Ginx TV, Emmanuel TV, DW, One Freestate Televisual and NWTV.
MultiChoice released a statement about the closure of Africa Magic Urban which will be the eleventh one yet, and it reads,
“Please note that this strategic shift allows us to focus on delivering the highest quality content that resonates most with our diverse audience. By consolidating our efforts, we can better invest in new and exciting programming that aligns with your interests.”
Insidus also reports that “MultiChoice is likely looking to cutback on content commissions for these channels in order to boost their streaming endeavors with Showmax.”
