The South African music industry is in mourning following the tragic passing of Afrikaans rapper Angelique Eurika Greeff, popularly known as Angie Oeh. The 24-year-old artist lost her battle to stage 4 lung cancer on Saturday, leaving fans and fellow musicians devastated.
Angie Oeh’s untimely demise occurred at Life Wilgers Hospital in Pretoria. Her diagnosis had been confirmed earlier in the week, marking a rapid progression of the disease. Wynand Myburgh, who is also recognized as Valkie van Coke and serves as Angie’s manager and intimate companion, conveyed deep grief in response to her demise. The individual emphasized her distinct aptitude and the significant vacuum that would be created in the music industry in her absence. “It is very sad and very terrible to lose Angie at such a young age,” he said. “Those who met her or have worked with her will know how wonderful and special she was. We are not only losing a South African gem but also a very special friend and partner.”
Myburgh took to Instagram to pay tribute to the late rapper, emphasizing her immense contribution to the music industry. He praised her work ethic, creativity, and genuine nature, assuring fans that her music would continue to resonate and keep her memory alive.
In 2022, Angie Oeh faced another health challenge when she had a 15cm cancerous tumor removed from her back. The recent pain she experienced led to further medical consultations, culminating in the stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis. The gravity of her condition became evident when she revealed on Instagram the need for R200,000 for medical expenses. A BackaBuddy campaign was subsequently launched, amassing over R278,000 in donations.
