AKA: 5 of 7 Murder Suspects Return to Durban Court for Bail Application Hearing

Five of the seven suspects in AKA and Tibz’s murder trial have returned to court for their bail hearing.

It was previously reported that five of the seven men accused of killing AKA and Tibz applied for bail. One of them, Mkhwanazi claimed Pillay misled the court by falsely linking him to this case.

His lawyer, Advocate Simphiwe Mlotshwa said,

“I request that this state makes an order that I be assisted either by SAPS or IPID to open a criminal case of perjury or defeating the ends of justice for full scale investigating to be conducted. After careful analysis of this case, the investigating officer says he has a full case against me. He alleges that there is a strong case against me, no evidence and says the same against the others.”

The suspects recently returned to court for their bail hearing, however no progress has been made in that regard. This came after businessman Mfundo Gcaba was accused of paying for the hit on AKA and Tibz.

Through their spokesperson Jackie Shandu, Mfundo Gcaba, distanced himself from the case.

“In light of the recent developments and the allegations directed towards our brother, Mfundo, we wish to clarify that he is an adult and a successful businessman in various sectors. It is important to note that the financial transactions between him and Mr Gwabeni were purely for business purposes. Those numerous transactions over a long period of time can be verified through bank records and were neither unique or isolated.”

The bail hearing was Livestreamed by Newzroom Afrika.
