Billionaire Elon Musk was set to receive the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Award alongside Rupert Murdoch. But it was cancelled last minute amid strident opposition to the two of them receiving the award.
Of particular note was that the family of the late Supreme Court Judge, for whom the award is named, was also in strident opposition to Musk and Murdoch receiving the award.
Another key opposition to them getting the award was the legendary singer Barbra Streisand. She, like a couple of others, felt that Elon was not the best for the award as he does not represent the core values that the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Leadership Award represents and seeks to celebrate.
Well, it turned out that the opposition to Musk and Murdoch getting the award was strong enough for the award body to make a U-turn about honouring the two of them.
In their place now, other recipients will be announced soon.
At the time of writing, Elon Musk had not addressed the decision not to honour him again after being pegged down for the award. It doesn’t even appear that he has any regrets about anything.
Well, he isn’t the first person to be stripped of an award either.
