Billie Eilish, Robert DeNiro, Mariah Carey And Lots More Entertainment Sign Letter Backing California Police Reform Bills

Billie Eilish, Robert DeNiro, Mariah Carey and hundreds of entertainers and sports stars sign letter backing California Police Reform Bills.

An open letter supporting police reform legislation in California is getting hundreds of celebrity signatories across the music, entertainment and sports industries. On Wednesday, August 19 2020, a statement was released urging the governor and state legislature to approve two bills addressing accountability of the police.

Some of the musicians who have signed the letter include the Jonas Brothers, Meek Mill, Anderson .Paak, Death Cab for Cutie, Migos, Kehlani, Miguel, Ludwig Goransson, Mary J. Blige, Summer Walker, Richie Sambora, Journey, deadmau5, Aloe Blacc,  Steven Tyler & Joe Perry, Young The Giant and Asap Ferg.

Actors who signed include Cynthia Erivo, Robert DeNiro, Sarah Paulson, Lucy Hale, Zooey Deschanel, Josh Gad, Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz, Sterling K. Brown, Debra Messing, Chris Sullivan, and Alyssa Milano.

Some companies have also signed on including Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, BMI, the Screen Actors Guild, the Actors’ Equity Association, and ASCAP.

It includes two bills, SB 731 (Bradford) and SB 776 (Skinner). The first bill will update Liability rules under California’s bane act, and also establish a system to revoke an officer’s certification upon criminal conviction or serious misconduct. The second bill would report on the use of force incidents involving officers thereby increasing transparency.
