Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr & Black Sherif Bag 2022 MTV EMAs Nominations
West African stars Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr & Black Sherif, have bagged nominations at the 2022 MTV EMAs.
By now, everyone must have noticed the shift happening in the African music industry. The current dominance of Afrobeats in the world has been championed by some of the biggest and most talked-about artists on the scene, especially in West Africa.
Some have released hits that have taken over the international scene and made noticeable impressions. The recently announced nominations for the 2022 MTV EMAs featured slots for a few of the year’s most talked-about artists, including Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr & Black Sherif.
Nominated for the Best African Act category, Nigerian artists Burna Boy, Tems, and Ayra Starr will face off against Ghanaian star Black Sherif and South African star Musa Keys and Tanzanian singer and songwriter Zuchu. Now, that’s a killer category. Everyone knows the level of moves these artists made this year.
Tems scored more than one nod, also appearing in the Best New Artist category (alongside Baby Keem, Dove Cameron, GAYLE, SEVENTEEN, and Stephen Sanchez). Tems had an Amazing year, appearing as a featured act on Beyoncé’s latest album “Renaissance” and also on Futures (which scored her first chart-topper). Good luck to them.
