Cassper Nyovest, DJ Maphorisa & Thickleeyonce React To Jorja Smith’s Amapiano Song

English singer Jorja Smith’s ambitions of taking “piano to the world” has provoked mixed reactions from the top figures in the genre as well as some followers of the amapiano genre in South Africa.

First off, Jorja Smith had been accused of stealing the beat of her “All of This” amapiano debut from the South African record producer Heavy K’s “Easy to Love” track (released 2014).

And because Jorja Smith involved no local amapiano talents in the making of the song, the Piano King DJ Maphorisa had made it clear that it is not piano music. He said those who want to tap the popularity of piano music can’t do that alone. But then local piano figures are amenable to working with those interested in the genre.

For his part, Cassper Nyovest, who wouldn’t be dragged into whether or not the beat was stolen,  had stated that a touch from key piano figures like Abidoza, Kabza De Small or De Mthuda would have blown the song out of the roof.

His compatriot, the plus size model Thickleeyonce, had similar views. She said the song would probably have done awesome numbers had Jorja Smith worked with the Piano Kings DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small.
