Amapiano has made great inroads in the music industry in South Africa. Now one doesn’t have to ask what the genre is. It is the in-thing in the Rainbow Nation and has attracted notable voices from other genres into its orbit, from soul to hip hop.
Family Tree rapper Cassper Nyovest believes amapiano can actually take over Africa’s music universe. He is strengthened in his faith about the genre by the sterling performance of his compatriots (amapiano musos) in other countries.
He believes that South African hip hop has a chance of doing great in the international circuit but ego, envy and more poisoned the movement of the genre. He believes where hip hop failed to set the precedent for growth, amapiano would give a fine example. He made this known in a recent tweet, which you can check out below.
Cassper Nyovest’s take on the subject has provoked a serious debate online. For one who has delved into amapiano previously and promised to return to the genre in 2020, his opinions shouldn’t be surprising, perhaps.
