Da L.E.S Indicates He’s Retired From Music

It has often been said that musicians never really retire. But that may not be the case for South African rapper De LES, who has reportedly indicated he’s done with the music. At least, that’s what his recent tweet suggests.

It all started after a blog shared the stats from one of its articles regarding “Omega Freestyle,” a diss track veteran rapper K.O wrote in response to Big Zulu’s “150 Bars.” The blog pointed out that the article reached almost a quarter of a million people.

And that, according to the blog, only suggests that Mzansi is crazing new music. The blog tagged several key voices in South African hip hop, including Da LES, who wasted no time tweeting the response: “Retired, fortunately”, followed by a kissing emoji.

Big Zulu’s “150 Bars” has been described as a wake-up call for South African hip hop and the kick of revival the industry needed, and there have been a couple of diss responses to it so far. But from what Da LES said, he’s no longer in the ring.

If his “retirement” is final, the world will know soon enough. Left to us, though, we’d wager that Da LES will still release new music in the coming days.
